We got a 2019 BMW X3 last November as second hand from a BMW dealership, but had sunroof leaking problems from the start. Car went back into the same dealership where I suggested their was a gap in the main seals that could be causing the water leakage, and I had read the pipes used to take away excess water can block and should be checked. Garage found a blockage but explained seals were not covered under the 12 month warranty. A couple of months after we can car back, we experienced more water coming into the drivers footwell. Things have got worse to the point that light would not turn off at night and then would not come on again ? Has anyone had problems with debris filling up the drain away pipes and I think I will replace seals to try to reduce and debris and water getting into car. Feel like putting sealant round sunroof over the winter !!
Ugh, that’s rough, especially right after buying it. You’re definitely not the only one dealing with clogged sunroof drains on the X3. If the car sat for a while before sale, junk can build up fast and block the drainage, which then floods the footwell. Once water gets in, it doesn’t take much to mess with lights and sensors.
Replacing the seals might help a bit, but clearing out the drains fully is the real fix. I’d push the dealer harder if electronics are messing up, it’s not just a leak at that point.
