Zips Car Wash is a popular chain with numerous locations across the United States, offering convenient and quick car wash services.
While many customers appreciate the efficiency and accessibility, some have encountered issues that have led to complaints.
Knowing the common problems and how to address them can help you make the most of your experience at Zips Car Wash.
Common Complaints About Zips Car Wash
1. Vehicle Damage
Scratches and Swirl Marks
Customers frequently report scratches and swirl marks on their vehicles after using Zips Car Wash services. These marks can occur due to the brushes and cleaning materials used during the wash process, which may not always be gentle on the car’s paint.
Broken or Missing Parts
There have been incidents of broken mirrors, antennas, and other parts during the wash process. These issues typically arise when the automated equipment catches on parts of the vehicle, causing damage.
Paint Damage
Due to the harsh washing processes, some customers have experienced paint chipping or stripping. This damage can be particularly frustrating as it affects the car’s appearance and may require professional repair.
2. Poor Cleaning Quality
Incomplete Cleaning
Complaints about visible dirt and grime remaining on the vehicle after the wash are common. This indicates that the cleaning process may be insufficient, leaving the car looking less clean than expected.
Water Spots and Soap Residue
Reports of water spots and soap residue on the vehicle suggest inadequate rinsing and drying. These spots can mar the vehicle’s finish and require additional cleaning to remove.
Inconsistent Results
Some customers experience variability in the quality of cleaning between different Zips locations or even different visits to the same location. This inconsistency can be frustrating for those expecting a reliable service.
3. Customer Service Issues
Unresponsive Staff
Customers often describe difficulties in getting satisfactory responses or assistance from on-site staff. Unresponsive staff can make it challenging to address issues or complaints effectively.
Refusal to Address Damages
Sometimes, the company refuses to take responsibility for damages incurred during the wash process. This refusal can leave customers feeling helpless and dissatisfied with the service.
Rude Behavior
Reports of rude or unprofessional behavior from staff members are also common. Such interactions can significantly impact the customer experience, making it less enjoyable and stressful.
4. Membership and Billing Problems
Difficulty Canceling Memberships
Challenges in canceling memberships, with continued charges despite cancellation requests, are a frequent complaint. This can lead to frustration and financial inconvenience for customers trying to end their service.
Unexpected Charges
Unexpected charges or billing errors on customer accounts are also reported. These errors can create confusion and dissatisfaction, especially when charges are not clearly communicated upfront.
Inadequate Refund Policies
Customers often report difficulties in getting refunds for unsatisfactory services or wrongful charges. The lack of a straightforward refund policy can make resolving these issues more challenging.
How to Deal with These Complaints
1. Addressing Vehicle Damage
Before and After Documentation
Before using Zips Car Wash, take clear photos of your vehicle from multiple angles to document its condition. After the wash, inspect your car thoroughly and take additional photos. This documentation can be crucial if you need to report any damage.
Immediate Reporting
Report any damage to the on-site staff immediately and request a written report. Provide them with your before-and-after photos as evidence. If the issue is unresolved on-site, follow up with corporate customer service, providing all relevant details and documentation.
Insurance Claims
If Zips Car Wash refuses to address the damage, consider filing a claim with your vehicle insurance provider. Use your documentation to support your claim and ensure that the issue is resolved through your insurance.
2. Ensuring Cleaning Quality
Inspection
After the wash, inspect your vehicle thoroughly for any missed spots or residual dirt. If the cleaning is inadequate, request a rewash or additional attention to the missed areas before leaving the facility. Most locations should be willing to rectify the situation immediately.
Feedback and Follow-up
Provide feedback to the staff about the quality of the service. Follow up with corporate customer service if the issue is not resolved on-site. Detailed feedback helps the company improve its services and address recurring issues.
3. Handling Customer Service Issues
Escalating Complaints
If local staff are unresponsive or unhelpful, escalate your complaint to corporate customer service via phone or email. Provide detailed records of your interactions and the specific issues you encountered to ensure your complaint is taken seriously.
Documenting Interactions
Keep detailed records of all communications, including dates, names, and summaries of conversations. This documentation can be invaluable if you need to escalate your complaint or if the issue is not resolved promptly.
4. Managing Membership and Billing Issues
Monitoring Statements
Regularly check your bank or credit card statements for unauthorized charges or billing errors. If you find any discrepancies, promptly address them by contacting Zips Car Wash customer service and providing evidence of the charges.
Written Confirmation for Cancellations
When canceling a membership, request written confirmation and keep it for your records. Follow up if you notice continued charges after cancellation to ensure the issue is resolved.
Requesting Refunds
If you experience unsatisfactory services or wrongful charges, insist on speaking with a manager and request a refund. Provide documentation of the issue and be persistent until you receive a satisfactory resolution.
Zips Car Wash Cancellation Policy
1. Membership Cancellation Process
Online or In-Person Cancellation
Members can cancel their membership online through the Zips Car Wash website or by visiting a Zips Car Wash location.
The online process usually involves logging into your account, navigating to the membership section, and submitting a cancellation request. In-person cancellations can be done by speaking to a staff member at any Zips Car Wash location.

To who it may concern, I’m sure this post will not get no feedback. I have been a customer for almost 4 years. I pay for the ultimate wash monthly at your facility at 2300 Battleground Ave., Greensboro, NC. I am writing my complaint. I am very disappointed in the service. I am receiving from this facility. I use this facility because it is closest to my residency ever since zips acquired this car wash from Carolina car wash. The service has steadily declined for over two months. One of the overhead brushes has not worked today. I washed my truck and both overhead brushes were not working half of the time, the tire shine does not work when you go to vacuum your vehicles most of the time you have to clean out the nozzles because your employees don’t do it today. Trash was overflowing from the trash cans at the vacuums most of the employees set in chairs on their phones most of the time , one of the two gates for entrance into the car wash is closed today. An employee was setting on a trashcan on his phone most of the time when you go in there the second lane is always closed. I can easily find another car wash to start using and I’m sure they would love my business I am very displeased with how zips runs their organization. I pay for services and I am not receiving them from zips car wash.
